NZ North Island Trip #1 Take 2
A year has passed since we were wondering whether New Zealand would be open. I am happy to say although New Zealand’s fabulous leader has resigned, fingers crossed we will be going on that trip. In just 3 weeks’ time, we will be sitting on those suitcases willing them to close, golf clubs packed, and making final plans.
Woo hoo! I am super excited about this trip, John and I had such a great time the last time we did it, we kept saying how much our friends would love it – so it is fair to say that we cannot wait to show you guys around.
First, some housekeeping. Now is the time to check the passport is still valid. I have ordered 2 x Kiwi sims for John and me, it’s not the cheapest deal but has good data and allows unlimited calls and texts to Aussie numbers. Check it out here, there is still time to order and receive the sim before we leave.
Next, it’s time to make the most of your time in Wellington, see below our experience.
The full itinerary is available here.
In short we highly recommend the following
- Te Papa Museum – it has a an exhibition on Gallipoli through the eyes of 8 Kiwis and boy oh boy is it moving and so interesting. There is heaps of other stuff in there from nature, Maori culture, modern art and traditional art.
- Cable Car – you ride the Cable Car up the hill and at the top is the planetarium and a cafe. They have a movie in the planetarium in 3D and it was spectacular from memory. We then walked down through the gardens back to town. Very well worth the trip.
- Mount Victoria Lookout – this doesn’t take long, you drive to the highest point and look out over Wellington and beyond.
- Hannahs Laneway – just around the corner is the world’s tastiest laneway is the perfect place to taste local flavours and pick up souvenirs. Hannahs Laneway is gourmet heaven thanks to residents Leeds St Bakery, Wellington Chocolate Factory, Shepherd, Fix & Fogg, and Golding’s Free Dive.
