NZ North Island Trip #1

NZ North Island Trip #1

I am super excited about this trip, it just has the feeling of our last big trip to the Ryder Cup. We have groups popping in and out and some staying for the whole trip – we have new Tour members and we get to play Tara iti, life just doesn’t get much better than that.

Full itinerary is available here.

Part 1 – Wellington

We have hired 2 cars from the start, an 8 seater and a large hatch back, this should cater for the 6 to 8 people for the first half of the trip. We start in windy Wellington and play our reciprocal Royal Wellington, then go to the beach side town of Paraparaumu and play the course there. Below is a video of John walking in Wellington – same time of the year we are going… Jen and Bee bring very very heavy shoes so you stay on the ground….

In short we highly recommend the following

  • Te Papa Museum – it has a an exhibition on Gallipoli through the eyes of 8 Kiwis and boy oh boy is it moving and so interesting. There is heaps of other stuff in there from nature, Maori culture, modern art and traditional art.
  • Cable Car – you ride the Cable Car up the hill and at the top is the planetarium and a cafe. They have a movie in the planetarium in 3D and it was spectacular from memory. We then walked down through the gardens back to town. Very well worth the trip.
  • Mount Victoria Lookout – this doesn’t take long, you drive to the highest point and look out over Wellington and beyond.
  • Hannahs Laneway – just around the corner is the world’s tastiest laneway is the perfect place to taste local flavours and pick up souvenirs. Hannahs Laneway is gourmet heaven thanks to residents Leeds St Bakery, Wellington Chocolate Factory, Shepherd,  Fix & Fogg, and Golding’s Free Dive.
